Elevated uric acid impacts approximately 21% of the general population, yet only about 3.9% suffer from gout. High levels of uric acid are linked to various health conditions including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, Type II diabetes, hypertension, and coronary artery disease, among others. What is the connection between uric acid and cardiovascular diseases? Why is high uric acid so prevalent in the United States? What steps can be taken to address this issue?
